What Is an Aesthetic Flat Closure?

An Aesthetic Flat Closure is a form of reconstructive surgery. It is also considered to be the gold standard for going flat. Aesthetic Flat Closure is a procedure done after, or as a part of, a mastectomy surgery.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Anyone who does not want to have a formal breast reconstruction with implants and/or flaps should be able to have aesthetic flat closure. The surgery is more straightforward with less recovery time than other breast reconstruction procedures. This is a very personal decision that will be discussed with your surgeon to determine if this is the best option for you.

What Can I Expect During the Procedure?

During the procedure, extra skin, pockets of fat, and excess tissue are removed. The remaining tissue is tightened and smoothed out to create a flat chest wall contour. Sometimes after immediate flat closure, fat transfer is used to minimize a scooped-out look or to smooth out any divots or indentations. This procedure combines reconstructive and cosmetic techniques to deliver a safe and beautiful result.

How Long Is the Recovery?

Patients are usually back to daily activities in two to four weeks.
