Women go through a lot to bring a bundle of joy into the world. As moms, we get to experience one of the greatest miracles of life. “I love being a mom, but boy, did that pregnancy and childbirth thing wreak havoc on my body!” If that sounds familiar, you are not alone.

Loss of volume in the breasts, sagging skin, stubborn fat and weak or separated abdominal muscles are often the results of having one or more children. This drives many women to seek a mommy makeover to put everything back in its place. This procedure has the ability to transform the way a woman feels about herself.

So, what exactly is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is just like it sounds. It’s having cosmetic procedures on more than one area of the body at the same time. Traditionally, this surgery consists of a tummy tuck and some sort of breast surgery- breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction. Often, liposuction is also included. These surgeries are a customized package of cosmetic procedures designed to help women of all ages look and feel like their pre-childbirth selves. During your consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, you will be able to ask your list of questions about the procedures that will benefit you, both physically and emotionally. Once you have made the decision to move forward with the procedures, the plan for your makeover will start to unfold.

What is the recovery process?

The thought of the recovery period is a little frightening to many, but you’ll plan based on the surgery that has the longest recovery. That’s usually the tummy tuck. But, on a positive note, you’ll recover in less time than it would take if you had each surgery individually. You will not be able to stand up straight initially, but that gets better each day. Taking short walks around the house for blood circulation purposes is encouraged. We all heal at different paces, so listen to your body. Don’t try to be Superwoman. Ask for help. Believe it or not, people like to feel needed. Rest, rest, and rest some more. It’s essential to let your body undertake the miraculous healing process.

If you have breast surgery, liposuction, and a tummy tuck, you can plan on about six weeks before you can lift and perform more strenuous exercise. That’s recovery for all areas. Think about that… only six weeks to a more confident you!

At Webb Plastic Surgery, we consider it a privilege to help women through the Mommy Makeover journey- the physical and emotional transformation to uncover the beauty that is already there.
